What is the difference between modeling and acting?
A simple explanation of modeling work, acting work and where the two overlap.
Written explanation
Modeling is mainly about presenting a product, a garment or a brand through photographs and video. Acting is about performing a character with dialogue, emotion and movement. Many people do both, but the skills, auditions and payment structures are different.
- Fashion modeling: editorials, lookbooks, designer showcases and runway
- Commercial modeling: eCommerce catalogues, product photography, everyday brand visuals
- Brand campaigns: a brand's seasonal or launch shoot, often photo plus video
- Films, web series and OTT: scripted roles, from leads to small supporting parts
- Music videos: a mix of performance, expression and screen presence
- Advertisements and TV commercials: short, high-detail shoots with strict briefs
